Nissan Maxima vs. Ford Fusion

A sporty sedan is what’s on the table, this time. This is no soccer mom car, the sedan that should be the one chosen should have the advantage in sport and features, not to mention what the vehicle is capable of. So in a world full of sporty sedans and optioned out other sedans, which one should be at the top of the prospective auto buyer’s list? Two good choices are the Nissan Maxima and the Ford Fusion.

Like most vehicles of their type, being in the same class, they have several similarities. First things first; the most important thing on most car buyers’ minds is the cost. It’s true that a buyer would spend a bit more if he chose the Maxima, but as will eventually be seen, you get what you pay for. For another cost similarity, both have the same warranty, down to the month. Both vehicles sport 3.5L V6 engines, fairly standard for sporty sedans of their class.

Both cars also sport seating for 5, as well as leather interiors, always a plus for the discerning auto buyer. And really, both cars have a lot of standard features in seating. Power driver seats, as well as heating for both driver and passenger seats, are standard on both the Fusion and the Maxima. However, with the Fusion you would have to pay extra for a power passenger seat.

There are, however, some extreme differences between the two vehicles, and here is where the extra money you spent on the Maxima went. First, and most obvious, is the horsepower. The Maxima pumps out 291 kicking horses, while the Fusion has a respectable 265. With that, the edge goes to the Maxima on torque as well, 261 vs. 250. One would think that with a more powerful engine with more surging horsepower, the Maxima would have a lower fuel economy than the Fusion, but not so. The Maxima gets 19 miles per gallon in the city, to the 18 on the Fusion, and also sports a larger gas tank, 20 gallons to the Fusion’s 17.5 gallon tank.

The Maxima has some interesting safety and convenience features, as well. The Maxima actually has airbags for the back seat, so the driver and passenger aren’t the only ones who are safer in the event of an accident. And the sunroof on the Maxima? Standard. You’d have to spend more extra to get one on the fusion. To view some Maximas, visit this website.
